SO MANY ACTIVITIES AT THE INN...

No TV. No Wi-Fi. No problem.

Disconnect and relax.  While a few rooms here do have Wi-Fi, no cell service or cable is available on site, and you'll leave believing that's a good thing.

Visitors often tell us how nice it feels to truly be away from it all at the Izaak Walton Inn. Especially with how much there is to do on the property and nearby.

TRAIN WATCHING

It's a beloved tradition for guests to wave at trains as they pass the Inn.

Take the simple pleasure of sitting on a porch swing, the lawn, or the deck of a remodeled caboose to watch passenger and cargo trains chug by.

Railroad enthusiasts also love the footbridge over the tracks for train spotting.

Visitors find that the mountains, rivers, and bridges form the perfect backdrop for dramatic photographs of the Historic Great Northern Railway.

Mountain Goat (Oreamnos americanus), Glacier National Park, Montana
Glacier National Park is prime mountain goat habitat and the day I hiked the trail, this one miraculously appeared. He was kind enough to stand motionless for several moments allowing me to capture him and this spectacular view of Hidden Lake near Logan Pass, Montana.

HIKING

Stanton Lake Hike:
Located ten miles to the West of the Izaak Walton Inn on Highway 2 – this 3.8 mile round trip hike is a quick jaunt to one of the larger lakes in the area. The first half-mile is a steep incline and then the trail evens out to being one of the easiest in the area for lake access. A popular destination for hiking, fishing, and camping – Stanton Lake provides beautiful views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Best for hiking between June and October, the trail is additionally visited in the spring and winter as a snowshoeing destination.

Marion Lake Hike:
A moderate trail located right out the Izaak Walton Inn’s backdoor – this 7.5 mile round trip hike will take you up to the perfect hidden watering hole for swimming, fishing, or a relaxing picnic. The trail is steep, so we recommend bringing hiking poles, bear spray, and a good supply of water. Best for hiking between June and October, the trail is also a popular winter snowshoeing and backcountry skiing destination for experienced skiers.

GOAT LICK OVERLOOK

Hang out with the "locals" just down the road from the Izaak Walton Inn. Access to the Goat Lick Overlook is only available in the summer months.

At this exposed riverbank along the highway only 3 miles from the Inn, mountain goats and other big game frequent the area to supplement their diet with needed minerals.

That means you get prime wildlife viewing at one of the most highly used natural mineral licks in the park.

Make sure you bring your camera and best lenses, as you're likely to come away with some fantastic shots as goats scamper into precarious positions for the best licks.

Walton Ranger Station near Izaak Walton Inn - Glacier National Park Resort

THE WALTON RANGER STATION - GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

A quick one-mile jaunt down the road from the Izaak Walton Inn will place you at the southern entrance to Glacier National Park, the Walton Ranger Station.

Hosting one peak bagger trail and two lengthy backcountry trails, this entrance to the park gets right to the nitty gritty of the great outdoors.

For a leisurely stroll, hike 1 mile in to the swinging bridge overlooking the Middle Fork of the Flathead River or journey on to the more lengthy backcountry trails for fishing and camping.

The most commonly hiked trail from the Walton Ranger Station is the Scalplock Lookout Trail, 11 miles roundtrip, which takes you to the peak of Scalplock Mountain and one of the manned lookout towers in the park boasting panoramic views of Glacier's most prominent mountain vistas.
